The Fighting 69th Irish Whiskey is a special Irish Whiskey dedicated to The Fighting 69th Regiment. It is the brainchild of Colonel (Retired) James Tierney. Colonel Tierney is a former member of the Unit and a Trustee of its non-profit Historical Trust. He served for 10 years as the Regimental Historian. He came up with the idea on one of his many visits to Ireland. A portion of each bottle sold benefits the Trust and supports its historic preservation memory as well as its philanthropic activities on behalf of the Regiment's Veterans and their families.
The 69th Regiment originates from the failed Young Irelanders revolt in 1848. Irish revolutionary activity transferred from Ireland to New York City. Irish Patriots in New York believed they needed to form an Irish Brigade composed of Irish Regiments to free Ireland from British Control. In the summer of 1849 and continuing into the fall Irish Leaders in New York City began negotiations with the State to form an Irish Regiment with the existing and future independent Irish Companies. The first Irish Regiment was adopted by the State of New York on December 21, 1849, making it the officially recognized date of the organization of the 69th Regiment. The Fighting 69th Irish Whiskey is triple distilled in Copper Pot Stills and Cask-Aged in once used Bourbon and Sherry Barrels on Ireland's Southern Coast. It is 80 proof, and its mash bill combines superior quality barley and malted barley with pure Irish water. On the nose you pick up citrus and soft caramel. The Fighting 69th Irish Whiskey is smooth and easy to drink. It is fruit forward giving it a nice balance between its citrus and caramel flavors.
